EuroBasket Recap: Jokic Posts 23+10 for Consecutive Wins, Markkanen Drops 43 Points in 23 Minutes

 On August 29, 2025 (U.S. time), the third game day of the FIBA EuroBasket continued with six matchups.



1. Jokic Posts 23+10 for Consecutive Wins

Serbia defeated Portugal 80-69.

In this game, Serbia encountered very tough resistance. In the first quarter, forward Filip Petrusev was ejected for excessive contact during a box-out. After that, the score remained tight. At the end of the first quarter, Serbia led only 23-19.

From the second quarter, however, Nikola Jokic began to show his dominance on offense. He first delivered several precise assists to fuel a Serbian run, and by halftime, the lead was extended to 10 points. In the second half, Jokic switched into scoring mode, hitting inside and outside for 7 consecutive points. By the end of the third quarter, Serbia led by 15, and Jokic checked out early. In the fourth quarter, Portugal tried to fight back, but the deficit hovered around 10 points. It is worth noting that Bogdan Bogdanovic did not play at all in the second half.

Jokic once again clocked out in three quarters. He shot 8-for-10 from the field, 1-for-2 from three, and 6-for-6 from the line, finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Nikola Jovic added 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Bogdanovic had 7 points and 5 rebounds. For Portugal, Brito scored 22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Queta, who had posted a big double-double in the first game, was contained this time, going 2-for-5 for just 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

2. Sengun’s 23+12+9 Leads Turkey to Victory

Turkey defeated Czechia 92-78.

In the first quarter, Alperen Sengun showcased his all-around game on both ends. On offense, his passing and inside scoring gave the opponent no answers. On defense, his rebounding and shot-blocking were ferocious. Still, Czechia led by 6 after one quarter. In the second, Turkey responded with an offensive surge to take the lead, building an 8-point advantage by halftime. In the second half, the battle remained competitive, but Sengun and Cedi Osman kept Turkey in control until the win was secured.

Sengun posted another dazzling stat line, playing 28 minutes and going 8-for-9 from the field and 7-for-10 from the line for 23 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks, with a +14 plus-minus. Osman added 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist; Osmani had 16 points and 3 rebounds. Off the bench for Czechia, Petrka scored 23 points with 5 rebounds.

3. Markkanen Drops 43 Points in 23 Minutes

Finland defeated Great Britain 109-79.

This game turned into a one-man show for Lauri Markkanen. In the first half, he was unstoppable, attacking inside and shooting from deep for an astonishing 29 points before halftime. Finland entered the locker room with a 16-point lead. In the second half, Markkanen’s firepower continued, while Great Britain gradually ran out of energy in the shootout. The fourth quarter became garbage time, and Finland cruised to a 30-point victory.

Markkanen played 23 minutes and 13 seconds, shooting 13-for-22 from the field, 7-for-13 from three, and 10-for-11 from the line, finishing with 43 points. That total ranks sixth on EuroBasket’s all-time single-game scoring list. In addition, he had 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 steals.

4. German Duo Both Score 20+ in Big Win

Germany defeated Sweden 105-83.

From the tip, Germany came out sharp and built a 17-point halftime lead. Sweden fought hard in the second half, even playing Germany to a draw for stretches, but the early hole was too deep, and they ultimately fell short.

For Germany, the two main stars delivered again: Dennis Schroder scored 23 points with 3 rebounds and 7 assists, while Franz Wagner tallied 21 points and 3 rebounds. Maodo Lo contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists; Daniel Theis added 11 points and 4 rebounds. For Sweden, Pantzar had a team-high 18 points.

5. Lithuania Rolls Past Montenegro as Valanciunas Scores 19

Lithuania defeated Montenegro 94-67.

Lithuania quickly established a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Inside, Jonas Valanciunas once again served as the anchor. With him leading the way, Lithuania continued to expand the margin, pushing it to 19 by halftime. In the second half, the lead grew even further, and a 13-3 run in the fourth pushed it past 30, sealing the outcome.

Rokas Jokubaitis led Lithuania with 21 points, 12 assists, and 3 steals; Valanciunas had 19 points and 5 rebounds. For Montenegro, Nikola Vucevic recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, while Jovanovic added 13 points and 5 rebounds, and Simonovic contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds.

6. Porzingis Rallies Latvia in Narrow Escape

Latvia edged Estonia 72-70.

Estonia took control early, but Kristaps Porzingis found his rhythm, helping Latvia stay close, trailing just 38-42 at halftime. In the second half, the battle turned into a dogfight. The fourth quarter was remarkably low-scoring, as neither team scored for nearly six minutes. In the clutch, Porzingis stepped up, scoring 8 points with a mix of field goals, free throws, and drawing a goaltending call, securing a narrow win for Latvia.

Porzingis finished with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks. Zagars added 8 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals; Bertans had 6 points and 11 rebounds. For Estonia, Kullamae posted 12 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals.
